Happy Patriots' Day

The Monday of our April Vacation is Patriots' Day.
Patriots' Day is a holiday celebrated on the third Monday in April, which commemorates the battles fought at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, which marked the start of the American Revolution. There are many groups that re-enact the famous battle which occoured about 12 miles away from downtown Boston.
Patriots' Day is also the day that The Boston Marathon is run. The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon as well as one of the most prestigious. We have at least 3 teachers in our school that have completed The Boston Marathon. See if you can guess who they are...

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are terms that are used together but meant different things. All three are ways we can work together to improve the quality of life in Boston and beyond.

Lots of people at have been trying to recycle at school. A group of students has been collecting and emptying the bins placed throughout the school to recycle paper. We are also trying to collect the Styrofoam lunch trays for recycling in the cafeteria.

If all of our newspapers were recycled, we could save about 250 million trees each year! If every American recycled just one-tenth of their newspapers, we could save about 25 million trees each year.

The GREENS is a cool kids' site about looking after the planet. MeetTheGreens.org is produced by the award-winning kids team at WGBH Interactive in Boston.

Try to think about one thing you can change to make a difference. Your planet will thank you.
