Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!

In honor of the birthday of Dr Seuss, I shared my favorite story (The Lorax) with students. It is a good time of year to think about the effect we have on plants and animals in out environment.
I used a computer program called wordle to convert part of the Lorax story into a piece of "word art." The more a word is typed into the wordle, the larger it appears in the wordle. You can change lots of options such as word direction and font color.
Can you spot the differences?
and
My favorite Dr Seuss quote from the Lorax, "unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not."

A Different View

Ms Kate and her Awesome Explorers got me thinking about how we all put things into perspective. I'm away with my family for the weekend in Arizona. The temperature is about 70 degrees during the day and 45 degrees at night (fahrenheit.) While driving, we saw lots of mountains. This is Camelback Mountain.

Can you see the camel?

How does this picture look different from what you see when you look out your window?

Tell me on Monday.

New Snowflake Making link

This online snowflake making link is trickier than the site I posted previously. You make lots of shorter, quick cuts.
I'm going out to enjoy the "real thing."
No School again tomorrow :(

Snow Equation

What makes a snowstorm? Why do some last longer than others? How do meteorologists predict the amount snow a storm will bring?
All weather has three factors that combine to determine what kind of day it will be. Those factors are: precipitation, air pressure and air temperature.
Weather Wiz Kids is a site to help you learn about all different kinds of weather. Click around and see what interests you.
Enjoy your snowday!
